Supported AI models

Membrane connects to Claude.ai and ChatGPT. Here's which plans support custom connectors, and what each one gives you.

As of today

Claude.ai

Every paid Claude plan supports unlimited custom connectors. The free tier supports a single connector at a time — fine for trying Membrane out.

PlanCustom connectorsNotes
Claude Free1 at a timeWorks, but if you already have another connector installed you'll need to swap.
Claude ProYesUnlimited connectors. Best starter plan.
Claude MaxYesUnlimited connectors. Higher usage caps.
Claude TeamYesUnlimited. Connectors set up per user.
Claude EnterpriseYesUnlimited. May require workspace admin to allow custom connectors.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT custom connectors require Developer Mode, which is only available on paid plans. The free tier doesn't currently support custom MCP connectors.

PlanCustom connectorsNotes
ChatGPT FreeNoNo custom connector support. Connect Claude Free instead if you're starting out.
ChatGPT PlusNoPlus doesn't include Developer Mode today.
ChatGPT ProYesRequires enabling Developer Mode in settings first.
ChatGPT TeamYesRequires Developer Mode. Workspace admin can set defaults.
ChatGPT EnterpriseYesRequires Developer Mode. Admin approval may be needed.
ChatGPT EduYesRequires Developer Mode. Good fit for research usage.
Not sure which to pick?
If you're just trying Membrane out, Claude Free is the simplest path — one connector slot, no Developer Mode, working in under a minute. For a main workflow, Claude Pro or ChatGPT Pro both work well; pick whichever your team already uses.

What's not supported

Developer-focused MCP clients

Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, Continue.dev, and similar developer tools can connect to Membrane via MCP, but this support site is for advertisers — those flows aren't documented here.

Other AI assistants

Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, and other assistants don't currently support MCP connectors. If that changes, we'll add setup steps for them.
